Welcome to the WNMU Mustang Family!
As a newly admitted student, you may be thinking “I’ve been admitted, now what?”
Step One: Financial Aid
his one is listed first because it is one of the most important steps in helping pay for your college education.
Every year on October 1st the FAFSA opens up for students to start submitting information in preparation for funding the next academic year. You must submit a new FAFSA each year as part of the financial aid process.
Haven’t submitted yours yet? Gather up last year’s tax information, and then visit the webpage below to get started applying for Financial Aid: https://financialaid.wnmu.edu/apply/
Once you have completed the FAFSA, it will take about 5 to 10 days for WNMU to receive it. Once we have it, you may be missing documents that need to be turned in to the Office of Financial Aid so that they can put together your final Award Package. You can always check your Financial Aid status through Mustang Express. Financial Aid created a really nice walkthrough guide, which you can find here: https://financialaid.wnmu.edu/basics/requirements/
Once you find out what you are missing, you can download the appropriate forms here: https://financialaid.wnmu.edu/forms/
You can submit your completed forms or missing documents to the Office of Financial Aid via e-mail at FADocuments@wnmu.edu or via fax at: (575) 538-6189
Remember, you can check your progress in Mustang Express.
If you have any questions about the process, you can always contact the Office of Financial Aid at (575) 538-6173 or via e-mail at FinAid@wnmu.edu
Step Two: Transcripts
We will need an official copy of your high school transcripts (or GED) and official transcripts from any colleges you attended before WNMU. Once we have received all of your transcripts, they will be sent to our transcript evaluator for a final evaluation.
Transcripts should be sent to:
WNMU Office of Admissions
P.O. Box 680
Silver City, NM 88062
Or they can be emailed via a digital transcription service from your school(s) to: submit.transcripts@wnmu.edu
Step Three: Accuplacer
Before we get you registered, we will need to determine where you are in relationship to college level Math and English courses. This is done with Accuplacer Testing.
Please Note: You may not need to complete placement testing depending on whether or not you took the ACT or SAT or have Math and English transfer credits.
If you took the ACT you need a 21 or higher in Reading, English, and Mathematics
If you took the SAT you need a 500 or higher in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics
If you took the GED you need a 165 or higher in Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics
If you took the HiSET you need a 15 or higher in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics
If you are a transfer student you need to have passed a college level English and Mathematics course with a C or better.
If you met some of the requirements but not all, you may only have to complete a specific portion of the placement tests.
You can take the Accuplacer at our Silver City or Deming locations, or you can do Accuplacer Remote Testing. Our Testing Coordinator will work with you to find the nearest testing center to you and send you a “Remote Voucher” so you can take our Accuplacer test at a location that is convenient to you.
If you have any questions about the process, you can always contact our Testing Coordinator, Daniel Turk, at (575) 538-6134 or via e-mail at testing@wnmu.edu
You can find the instructions and information about Remote Testing here: https://testingcenter.wnmu.edu/accuplacer/
Here is a link to the testing calendar, where you can see the Accuplacer testing days: https://testingcenter.wnmu.edu/testing-calendar/
Your first set of Accuplacer tests is free. The $10 seating fee for retaking the exam can be paid in person on our main campus at the Business Office located in Castorena Hall, or online at: https://testingcenter.wnmu.edu/
Remember to bring your receipt with you when you take the test! After you have taken the test, it takes about 24 hours for the Accuplacer scores to be entered into our system. Then you can schedule an appointment with The Advising Center using the link below to get registered for classes.
PLEASE NOTE: Accuplacer scores are only valid for one year.
