Transfer Student Roadmap
Stay on track with financial aid, transcripts, placement, registration, course materials, and payment deadlines.
Welcome to the WNMU Mustang Family! As a newly admitted transfer student, use this roadmap to stay on track with financial aid, transcripts, placement, registration, course materials, and payment deadlines. Start early. Transfer evaluation, financial aid, and registration planning can take time. Completing these steps early can help you avoid delays.
Step 1: Financial Aid
- Submit a new FAFSA each year as part of the financial aid process.
- Use Mustang Express to check your status and any missing requirements.
- Download and submit any required forms as early as possible.
Step 2: Transcripts
- WNMU needs official college transcripts from every school you attended before enrolling.
- If you are transferring with fewer than 60 credit hours, you may also need official high school transcripts.
- Your transcripts are used for final transfer-credit evaluation.
Step 3: Placement Testing
- If your transcripts show college-level English and math with a C or better, you may not need placement testing.
- ACT, SAT, GED, and HiSET scores may also waive placement testing.
- If needed, you can test in Silver City, Deming, or through remote testing.
Step 4: Register for Classes
- Review the course schedule and degree requirements before registration.
- Transfer evaluation and placement information will help determine what you should take next.
- Meet with advising if you want help planning before registration.
Step 5: Textbooks & Materials
- WNMU Access includes textbooks in tuition and fees.
- Review opt-out information, FAQs, and bookstore access details early.
- You can also search for materials through the bookstore or Canvas.
Step 6: Payment Plan
- Pay your bill or set up a payment plan before classes begin.
- You can do this through Mustang Express.
- Contact the Business Office if you have billing questions.
You Don’t Have to Navigate College Alone
While self-service tools can help you complete many academic tasks independently, building a relationship with an academic advisor is one of the best ways to stay informed, supported, and on track toward graduation.
